Hey Fans… hope this finds everyone around the world happy and healthy!! There’s been a lot going on lately, my life always seems to be on the go once season starts!! I think some people think, well, all you have to do if you’re an athlete is show up to practice for a couple hours a day and bounce, and have the rest of the day to do whatever you want… haha.. I wish it was like that! So I thought, being that I seem like I’ve been running around like a chicken with my head cut off, I thought I’d walk you through one of my typical days. A day in the life of an athlete, well maybe not every athlete, but one of my days, lol.

On most days I’ll get up a little before 9 am or so, get dressed to go to practice and do all those other things that most everyone does in the morning, like eat, brush my teeth, etc! Ohh and I also have to take Cody for a little walk too, before I head out the door, of course, coffee in hand!! The coffee is a MUST! Then I’m off to practice at around 9:45 or so. Once I’m at our practice facility, most days I’ll get treatment first, stem, ultra-sound, and heat my muscles up a bit with heat packs. It’s funny I recall when I was in my 20’s looking at the older players, and being like, “dannng, you guys are always in the darn training room.” And now…. well lets just say, I completely understand!! Two ice bags isn’t enough, now we take “ice baths”, VJ used to be a trooper in the ice bath department. She’d sit all the way down to her neck in the bath, and Sophia too, they’re either super tough, or super sore, haha… I hate ice bath’s, but I gotta do em now too!! After treatment, it’ll be about 11 which is practice time, so we’ll either watch film first and then go on the court, or just head straight to the court. So practice on a normal day, runs about 2-21/2hrs or so, and after practice, most players will get some extra work on the court, or hit the weight room for about 40 minutes or so, then if you feel like you need any extra cardio, you gotta get that in too!! Then, many of us, will get some more treatment (yes our trainer is not only the BEST, but she’s ridiculously busy with all of us to attend too!!) So now its about 2:30 or 3, and most all of players normally have about a 20 minutes commute. After we’ve done our responsibilities on the court/wt. room, we’ll normally have a little bit of media to attend to, or at least a couple of us will have some kind of appearance we’re headed off too, or we’ll have some kind of league mandated meeting, players union meeting, blah blah blah. As you can imagine, some of us are very grumpy by the time 3pm rolls around, you notice, there was no snack break, or lunch break in there, and after working out, we’re all very hungry. That’s normally the first thing everyone’s thinking about-FOOD!! Some of our days are long, and some of them are short, depending on our individual and team scheduled events. Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely not complaining, I prefer to be busy than bored, but I did want to shed some light on what one of our typical days looks like.

Obviously after practice is when everyone has to take care of whatever personal business they need to attend too.. And I know, after a tiring day at the gym, I love to come home and see Cody!!! My dad recently drove him down for me from SD, and they pulled in to my house a few weeks ago at about 3 am. I was expecting them, but I didn’t expect to hear Cody going ballistic in my garage that night!! Haha.. my dad said he was tired and had basically been sleeping the whole car ride down, and when they pulled in to my house, my dad let him out, Cody took a quick peepee, but was sleepy from having just woke up. Well they come into my garage, start to walk up the stairs, and Cody just starts howling, jumping in circles, going crazy, I
guess he figured out where he was and who was inside!! He could probably smell my scent on the stairs, and he completely lost it!! I loved it!! It made my week!!! He was like, “Mommy’s inside!!!” So once I let them inside, I laid on the floor with him for about 15 minutes while he moaned/growled like he’d had such a rough life since I was away. Haha.. then he was attached to my hip for the next few days, haha.. He’s the best dog in the universe, and not spoiled at all.. haha.. NOT, he’s super spoiled, but he’s well behaved and has a super sweet personality!! And I’m not biased at all!! )

I’ll try and get some pics out soon to you guys, so watch out for those soon!!

Hello to everyone around the world!! Sorry its been awhile since I’ve blogged last, its been a busy time these past 2 months!! I had a few friends come visit me here in Spain right before the Christmas break, and then as soon as they left, I left right behind them to head home for the holidays!

My house was full as usual over Christmas! I got to spend Christmas with my Grandparents, parents, sister, brother, nieces, and nephews! I love the smell of my parents house, its nostalgic for me, especially around Christmas time!! It always smells like something good to eat (mostly because there IS always something good to eat around the house)!! It was pretty cold though in South Dakota, so I was off to warmer weather in New Jersey (haha) a few days after Christmas.

My “breaks” always go by sooo fast, before I knew it, I was back in Spain practicing again! My team started off January with a bang, by winning the Spanish Queens Cup! Now, we’re battling Prague in the first round of Euro league playoffs.

Just wanted to give all my fans a little update on my whereabouts these past few months.

But stay tuned for the next blog, it’ll have a bit more of important information!! I’m boring myself with this one, but just wanted to let you all know, I was thinking of you!! Poka, hasta luego, or goodbye for now.

Blessings, Becky

Que pasa?? I hope my first blog from Spain finds everyone around the world happy and grateful. Grateful for what? You know the old saying, count your blessings, count them one by one… etc etc.. And since Thanksgiving is around the corner, I’ve been thinking about how grateful I am, for my family, friends, health, job, and sometimes even to say thank you for the very air I breathe.

When we wake up each morning, we are presented with the “present”… every moment of now is a gift, and our thought process in the now determines a lot of how our day might go, or even how our week, our year, our whole life might go. It’s true that life is bound to bring us all some pain at some point, we’re human. It’s the very nature of the world we live in. Life isn’t easy all the time, in fact sometimes it’s flat out hard and unfair… BUT even then, we have the gift of the “present”.

I like saying “present” because that’s what it truly is! You’ll never get another chance at “NOW”!! So how do we make the most of our “NOW,” which is a present?? In my opinion, let’s look for the answer where everything starts… in your head! Your thoughts!! Our thoughts are extremely important, thoughts can either kick your butt, or you can use them to kick butt! In your mind is where seeds are planted. Time is the watering of the seed, and all this can give life (action) to your original thought.

Think back to the old school bully…. in the 5th grade he was 5′ft tall, freckles, and loved eating your pudding snack pack!! In fact the more you thought of this old bully, the bigger he got in your mind, you thought of him so much, that by the time he was done stealing all your pudding snack packs, he was 8ft tall, with fangs and a pitchfork… you get the point right? Well the same can work in a positive way. When we get up in the morning, we have choices, I’m not just talking about the choice of what cereal to eat, or shoes to wear… try to find a blessing every morning when you wake up. Try to find your “present” each day.

Some days it might be hard I know, but choose to look at things as the glass always being half full… yes, choose.

Choose to have a good attitude when things are going wrong… after all, anyone can have a good attitude when things are going good, but the beauty is finding how you’ve “WON” your “NOW”.

Choose to see the butterfly instead of that giant worm looking you in the face. Give it a little time and watch how beautiful your present can be.

So yes it’s true, life will at some point bring us some pain, but it’s also equally as true to provide us with moments that take our breath away. So take a deep breath in and see what your present is today.

Hello everyone!! I’m writing you all today from my house in Jersey!! I’ve been resting and relaxing, and really not doing too much of anything!! It’s been about 3 years since I’ve had any significant time off, so I’m really enjoying my freedom!! So I’ll just fill you in on a few of the highlights over the past few weeks!

The first place I was off to was back to see my family in South Dakota! The last time I had been back was Christmas time, and so I was really itching to get back and see my nieces and nephews! I attended a few of my nephews football games, along with seeing some of my nieces’ volleyball games, they’re growing up so fast!!! Geez! My nephew is driving and is in H.S. already!!! I can remember when I was in H.S. and college and they were all little kids/babies running around at my games! And of course all my teammates loved having little kids around!!

When I was back one of my highlights was when my niece and nephew took me riding on their horses!! My niece and nephew both participate in rodeos so they were pumped to take me out and show me their skills on the horses. I’ve always loved riding horses and it was a lot of fun to get the horses out on the open prairie and let them run a little!! My nephew actually does steer wrestling and team roping, and he thoroughly enjoyed roping the horse’s legs while we were on them and giving me a minor heart attack! Although I still don’t know how he always managed to get the rope of the legs of the horse before the horse ever noticed the rope was even there!! Needless to say, he likes “horsing” around with his auntie!! The horse’s names were Spinner, Hooker, and Harley. I won’t tell you which one I rode, so we can keep the jokes at a minimum!! haha.. anyways.. the other fun thing we did was go bowling and have a slumber party together!

Cody is also now in SD and the kids have given him the name of “the dog of Love”, and so he slept the entire night cuddled between my two youngest nieces on the floor, tooooo cute!!!

So after a nice little rest in SD I was off to NYC!! It’s always nice to come back and see friends, and go into the city for some entertainment. I recently went to the Pink concert at the Garden, it was quite a show!! I love seeing concerts at the Garden! I’ve seen Madonna a few times, NSYNC (yea I said it!), Cher, Whitney Houston (in the theatre), and a few others.. I think in another lifetime I’ll be an entertainer!! I love the shows they put on! I could sit and watch people dance for hours!

Sooo that’s what’s been going on in my world!! I’m going to continue to rest my mind and body til something interesting pops up, then I’ll be off doing whatever that is!

Til next time.. Blessings, Becky

Hello everyone.. I’m blogging from my backyard this morning, very pleased to be getting some rest and relaxation! I love being able to wake up, get some French vanilla coffee, my bible, and go read a little bit to start my day. These days are priceless, no hustle and bustle, just me, Cody, and the birds in my backyard, its serene. Although most days I try to read a few scriptures in the morning, it sets in motion my actions and attitude for the rest of the day, great way to start any day!!

And since today I’m not thinking about basketball (sometimes your mind needs a break as much as your body) I wanted to blog about a question that I received on a radio station the other day.

A fan from New Jersey, I think her name was Sam, so hi to her. I wanted to expand on your question a bit more in regards to Michael Vick. So you had asked me how I would feel or handle the situation of being his teammate?? So I wanted to actually expand a bit on the aspect of teammates and of a team in general.

A team is like a family… you fight, you cry, you laugh, you respect, you make memories together, you help each other crawl out of valleys, you push each other to get to the mountain tops, you serve each other, you enable, you encourage, you teach, you listen, you breath in the breath taking views of success, but most importantly you love. Now, I’m not saying this is the norm, it’s the exception, and the principles cross over into life. I try to live my life like this.. It’s not a perfect picture, but there’s beauty in the mysteries that I don’t understand. And I can’t tell you exactly why or how everything works, but I can tell you forgiveness is a blessing to the person that forgives, not necessarily for the person you are forgiving. So with Mr. Vick, he made some awful mistakes, and he’s asked that the public, his family, and I’m sure that if he’s asked the general public to forgive him, I’d assume he’s also asked God to forgive him.. I do.

He’s paid his price, and I believe in second chances. I hope he goes on to have a fantastic career, and I hope he can learn to forgive himself along the way.

I know I’m guilty of doing or saying something really stupid/careless, and in hindsight saying, “Gosh Becky that was really a foolish thing to do/say”. I’ve had to apologize for stupid things that I’ve done or said. Forgiving yourself is often the greatest blessing of all. I know I’m a pretty harsh critic of myself. I’m somewhat of a perfectionist, and we are all free to live and breathe and laugh once we realize we’ll never be perfect, but the refining of becoming a better me is most often found in the process of failing and getting back up to try again.

Let’s allow not only Michael Vick, but our family members, our friends a little freedom to fail, and a lot of freedom to succeed. We all need to take self inventory sometimes, and give a truthful analysis if we’re holding onto anything that may poison our own souls.

I believe un-forgiveness and jealousy might be the two most damaging bags the soul has to deal with. These two diseases have no room in my life, or my team, they’re destructive!!

A positive outlook on life goes a long way. Instead of wasting your energy wishing bad things on others, and wondering why nothing good happens for you, wish and speak positive things to and about other people (not just yourself) and watch how great and wonderful things start happening for you! Don’t drink the HATERADE!! You don’t want to carry around that baggage! So cut your soul a break and choose to forgive when it’s not easy, then you lose your own soul to breath.

Hello from Latvia!! A lot has been happening lately, so I’ll try quickly to get you up to speed.. As most of you know, I had to head over to Latvia for 6 days to compete in the European Championships. Its been an interesting and restless journey over the past month and a half or so trying to figure out what was the “most right” thing to do in this very complex situation. As usual I never take big decisions lightly, and try to consider ALL parties involved. And I have to give a huge thank you to Peter Holt, Coach Hughes, my
team mates, and everyone in the Spurs/Stars faculty for making it very obvious that San Antonio truly is the best run organization in the league. Hands down the Best!

Sooo let me rewind a week or so, and lets talk about how awesome it was to see that Western Conference Championship banner hung on Opening night! It looked GREAT up there! The only thing that would look GREATER would be a WNBA Championship banner hanging right next to it! The game itself didn’t get off to such a pretty start, but we hung in there and kept battling, and didn’t let down that great opening night crowd we had. We feed off our fans energy, and they’ve helped us pull through some difficult games down the stretch, and they certainly hung in there with us till the end the other night!

Speaking of hanging in there, my team here in Latvia, just barely pulled out an overtime win against the home town team. Anete Jekabsone-Zogota is a handful to guard defensively. If you’re not familiar with her, you will be this summer as she is signed to play with the CT Sun. Coach T probably fell in love with her as a player at the Olympics as she gave team USA fits defensively in a pre-Olympic tournament game. Although, life is different over in the WNBA for sure, the girl can flat out shoot it! There were over 8,000 people at the gym tonight, almost all cheering against my team, but I love that kind of atmosphere!! Its really unheard of over here in Europe to have that kind of crowd, so it was a great night globally for women’s basketball.

What was similar though in both these games, was the perseverance it took to win. Nothing is easy at this level, you gotta work for everything!! And what I love is during the course of games, is there’s ups and downs, peaks and valleys! Its in those valleys that you learn perseverance, persistence, and patience! And those traits being stretched and prodded in each individual produces strong character, trust in each other so that you can handle the peaks with integrity. Yes, there’s something to be said to being a “good loser”, but you can learn a lot about someone in how they handle winning as well. How you lose can definitely expose some immaturity, but hopefully winning will show your humility even more! For me I’d rather be a gracious loser than an arrogant winner. There’s always more going on beneath the surface of basketball.. there’s life going on, there’s lessons going on, there’s growth going on!! There’s more to life than basketball, so open your eyes, take a look around at how big the world is, and smile knowing that there’s no one on earth quite like YOU!
team mates Sapa! Sapa makes me laugh!!!! Oh my gosh, we had a great time.. Watching her try to grill, is a site!! But I can’t knock her, the chicken was great tasting!! One of my favorite little friends also came over for dinner, Sasha.. She’s adorable, and has a lot of energy!! Once she trusted me enough to jump, we had about 30 jumps together, she couldn’t get enough. I love the way kids trust, its pure and innocent, and we had a blast hanging out! Sapa later took my money at poker, and had me take a picture so she could remember the moment!!

Hey Everyone.. hellllllooooo from America! My first blog being back home, and it feels so goooood!!!

My team ended up taking third place in the Russian Super league, and by the party we threw you would’ve thought we were world champions. So we tooted our horns and raised our paper cups to “we are the 3rd place champions of the world!” The owners had brought in the biggest bottle of Asti (I think that’s the name) and took us out for a great dinner after the game. We had a great time, as usual, and all of us were heading out the next morning to our various countries, so it was a short night, but a fun one! Thank goodness everyone had already been packed up for about a week, because we didn’t waste anytime catching flights back across the Atlantic. And thank goodness I had someone to help me pack, omg! I don’t know how I accumulate soooo much crap! Geez, I ended up giving away as much as I could, and still left bags over there in Moscow, and brought 4 bags back with me to NJ! So once I got unpacked, I repacked and headed to the Florida Keys for a quick couple days of sun and fishing with my parents and grandparents! I had a great time, and decided that I wouldn’t be going on any major vacations, but would rather lay low and be at home! No airports, no luggage, no hotels!

BUT, I’ve got to tell you about my short vacation to the Keys! My parents have a time share down there, and so my mom is always talking about what they’ve been doing in Florida, who’s been down visiting, etc, etc… while I’m in the cold, gloomy weather working, they’re living it up down in the sun! So this was my first time down there to see where they’ve been camping out the last few years avoiding the cold South Dakota winters.. and as usual, they didn’t disappoint in the FUN category!!

I flew down there in the morning and by later that evening I was wrestling with the BIG BOYS!!! I love it, such a blast! We took my dads boat and headed out just a short distance off shore, under some bridges to catch some tarpon or amber jacks… or at least that’s what my dad wanted to catch, but not me, I wanted to catch a shark!

My cousin had recently caught about a 10ft bull shark, probably just shy of 400lbs, soooo I wanted to catch a shark too! Although, it usually takes a couple of guys to reel in the fish, a good boat driver, and one guy helping handle the line (making sure you don’t get caught off on a motor, or debris, other fishing lines, etc) in fact when you get a big fish on the line, the first thing you do is reel in all the other lines… big game fishing is actually a team sport! It takes at least 2 and preferably 3 people to get in a big fish.

So anyways, we’re fishing, the lines are out, and we’re just enjoying the weather, there were dolphins that cruised by, a few sea turtles, blah blah blah, and finally we hook up on a small jack, so I real him in no problem. I’ve posted a picture of the jack and me. (Notice the small fishing rod in the pic, not really small, but not a heavy duty pole that you’ll see me handling a little later!!)

So the best thing about catching this jack, is that a jack is like a shark candy! Shark bait ohhh haaaa!! Apparently every time my dad has hooked up with a big shark, he’s used a jack for bait. So we threw a big piece of sushi on the BIG girl rod and sent it down to the bottom. It was just about sun down, and the swimmers were just heading back to the beach from the water. I could see a popular beach from the boat. (No fishing lie here!!) and BAM one of the lines start singing… ziiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggg… that jack wasn’t in the water more than ten minutes before a 8ft bull shark decided he was hungry!! He was probably around 250-270 lbs or so. My dad had told me he’d be shocked if we didn’t have a big shark on in less than 15 minutes in that area with that bait on.. he was right!

So I grabbed the rod and held on for dear life, and I do mean that literally. In the first 10 minutes it was all I could do to just hang on, really, it was ridiculously strong, and was twice my size, and who knows how many times stronger than me! But that’s why I love it, such a challenge!! I have the end of the rod settled in a battle belt for fishing, and my legs braced against the edge of the boat, with my mother getting on my last nerve yelling in the background “Mart, watch her, she’s going over”, “Mart grab her”, and on and on.. “MOM, STOP!!” She was full of wise advice “Beck reel”, yeah no crap mom!!!! lol.. There’s actually some technique you have to know when reeling in a monster!! But when that shark decides he’s gonna make a run, I just hang on.. When I feel like I’ve got a little advantage that’s when I lean back and then reel like heck on the way down. Pull back, reel like heck on the way down, over and over again! I’m fighting and hanging on, but mom, please know that your daughter is smart enough to let go of the pole before I let myself be drug into the ocean with a big, angry shark 20 yards away.

Of course we didn’t know how big the shark was till we got him close enough to the boat, to take a peak at him, which was about 70 minutes later. And I can’t tell a lie, after about 30 minutes I had to hand the pole to my dad, because I needed a 15 minute break or so to recover a little, my forearms and back were KILLIN me!!! Bull sharks are aggressive and unpredictable, which makes them very dangerous. They’re known for being “bullishly” strong, and having great endurance, plus the pure bulk size of this shark, made him more than a challenge for me. Bull sharks are actually probably more dangerous than great white sharks for a few reasons.

Like I listed before they’re aggressive and unpredictable, but also the pure number of them make them more dangerous, and they tend to be in more human populated areas, i.e the beach that was 400 yards away. And I didn’t look this up, but I think Bull sharks are probably the most dangerous, and white sharks after them. Bull sharks probably have more bite incidents, and great whites more fatalities. Either way, there’s no way in hell I’m going over board with that thing in the water!! So I demanded the pole back to finish off the job, all three of us were exhausted (me, my dad, and the shark) and we fought for about an hour and 20 minutes or so… But don’t worry, I handed the pole back to my dad so I could do a photo op with the shark! haha.. In one picture you just see my finger because I was grabbing its tail, of course watching where its head is, and trying to take a picture at the same time was difficult.. so I didn’t get a picture of me grabbing the tail, but I did!! .. After that battle, we were too tired to fish anymore, so we headed home that night, even though the tarpon were biting, we were completely consumed with getting this shark to the boat where I could grab it, take a few photos, then cut the line and let him swim off back towards the beach )

The next day we went fishing again. We didn’t catch anything big, but we did catch a few fish that were fun to reel in. There’s one picture of a bonnet head shark I caught, he was a cute little guy, but he did try to bite me! Don’t worry, he missed, and I clamped down my grip a little bit. A bonnet head is in the hammerhead shark family, but don’t grow to be as big as the Great Hammerhead sharks which can reach Goliath type sizes. There’s also a picture of a puffer fish.. this little guy has a little thorny skin, and tried to puff himself up, to make himself appear bigger than he actually is.. this is obviously a defense mechanism to ward off would be predators.. come to think of it, I may know a few people who have the same defense.. haha.. gotta love nature!

So when we got back to the dock, we cleaned the fish we kept to eat (most fish were sent back to the sea, its a rule, only kill what you’ll eat). In a matter of minutes there were more than 10 sharks waiting for the fish scraps.. So I decided to hand feed these little guys. I have to say, my point guard vision was in full effect!! I was looking everywhere with that fish dangling from my hand over the edge of the dock with over a dozen hungry sharks right there. I didn’t want any surprises! Turns out they were pretty shy, they could see me too, but eventually their hunger won out, and they finally came and took it out of my hand. I also posted a picture of a Florida local, a manatee… this one was a baby that was suckling up to our docked boat drinking the fresh water coming out the side.. I pet him too, he was sweet and enjoyed the little rub down on his big melon!

The next day before I headed back to NJ, me, my parents, and grandparents were able to catch up with Ms. Riley for dinner in Miami!! And of course, Ruth is a past fishing partner of mine, so we were able to catch up and exchange a few stories!

That’s about it for now, but I do want to throw in that I do try to check out everyone’s comments on my website, and appreciate your kind words.. poka

So that’s what my “down time” has consisted of! haha! I can’t sit still I’ve learned, but I’m really enjoying my down time!

Hello everyone.. Its been awhile since my last blog and though I’ve been busy, nothing to terribley exciting has happened over here in Russia, except a part of my building caught on fire.. that was kind of exciting, but then it was just a little annoying because of the heavy smell of smoke. My phone rang, and it was J-Mac asking me if I was in my building. So I said yes, and she says “um do you know its on fire?” I was like ok I’m going outside now and as soon as I opened my door, the smokey smell was pretty heavy. So I met J down stairs and we had a pretty good chuckle at the fire truck, in J’s words “drove it straight out of a Popeye episode.” Hahaha.. Anyways, it was a good size fire, but my building is huge, so there wasn’t any eminent danger, which is why we could find some comic relief from it.

So besides lots of practice, and one more game with Spartak, its been pretty chill here.

Sooo I’m going to blog a little bit about my family, and post a few pictures of them. I miss them very much, but we always make a big effort to spend time together whenever we can. (Link to the pics)

The pictures are from Christmas, so they are the most recent pictures I have of them, since that’s the last time I saw most of them. My brother and nephew were able to make it out to Phoenix though to see me at NBA All Star, so that was great, even though I was very busy there, any time I get to spend with them I’m thankful for.

As most of you know, I’m from South Dakota, and I wouldn’t change that for anything. I honestly had sooo much fun growing up as a kid. My family was very active, and we basically did everything together. But since we were doing so many fun things together, we all got along great, don’t get me wrong, we had our occasional fights, but I think for the most part we got along great. Always doing something.. my Dad loves to have fun, and I think everyone loves hanging out with my parents because they’re just fun.. and complete opposites.. my Mom is super social, wear’s her heart on her sleeve, and loves anything that involves her kids or grandkids. And my Dad is a dog and kid magnet. Mostly because he’s super loyal, and consistent, and I don’t know anyone who enjoys life more than he does. Anyways, they’ve been married for over 35 years, and my grandparents more than 60 years. My Grandfather and Dad still kiss my Mom and Grandma goodnight every night. Sooo cute. I’ve had incredible examples in my life of what love looks like. One of the best ways I was loved, was the way my parents loved eachother. The other being TIME.. they invested so much time with us, and we didn’t mind because it was always fun. My Dad makes a game of everything, and my Mom always makes sure everyone is attended to and fed well, haha..

Needless to say, I consider my family my biggest blessing in my life, besides my relationship with Jesus. I’m thankful and humbled by His grace and love that He’s given me. He’s my ultimate. Those two things will bring me to tears.. Jesus and my family.. it’s an honor to be Their daughter, and a sister to my siblings. They’re the biggest part of me, and quite honestly the best part of me.

So here’s some personal never been seen before pictures of me and my family.. I could go on and on and on about my growing up, camping, fishing, 3 wheeling, then 4 wheeling, hunting, scuba diving, pine cone fights, boating, hikes, softball, whiffle ball, football in the park or on the beach, picnics, my Dad teaching us how to catch fish with our hands, and he catching rattle snakes and giving us the up close and personal anatomy of snakes, tubing, canoeing, skiing, wake boarding, a ton of hours on road trips, snow mobiling, you name it, we did it.. except sky diving, never did that, but maybe one day.. My Dad used to play basketball with me on his knees in his room with a nerf hoop attached to the top of the door frame, (for me this was as serious as the Finals), once I dunked on that, I asked him if I’d ever be able to dunk on a real hoop.. He just looked at me, and said “No, but work on ruling the ground, not the air.” I can’t even get into all the indoor games we played.. Geeeez, soccer in our basement, wrestling matches, capture the flag, nerf gun wars, sock fights with the entire living room turned into a war zone.. Makes me smile just thinking about it. No wonder my brother and me were ridiculously competitive.. ahaha.. we used to ride 3 wheelers, then 4 wheelers ALL DAY, come home COVERED in mud.. I mean caked!!! We’d hit every mud hole possible, and we’d hit it again, then go find another one, and see who could ride around on 2 wheels the longest.. we’d come home and have to spray eachother off with the hose.. Ohh and did I mention we played a little bit of basketball too )

And I remember if I wanted to go shopping, that was the time to hit Mom up. I remember my Mom took me to Denver, just me and her for a shopping trip. My Dad wouldn’t think to spend the money on clothes my Mom would.. So Mom was the one to take to the mall definitely!! And of all my sister’s, brother’s, and my games she wouldn’t miss one! Football, softball, track, basketball, my Mom would make her schedule around us, and she actually coached me too. My Dad’s a pretty sick athlete, but my Mom is a tough cookie and very athletic. If my Mom tells me she’s hurting, I believe her, she’s got a very high pain tolerance. My sister Gina ran track, played softball, and played basketball too. In fact when she was a senior, and I was in 7th grade, we went to a small Christian School, and I played on the varsity bbll team with her.. Just what every senior girl wants, her little sister on every road trip with her and her H.S. friends, my poor sister, I was always tagging around with her when we’d go into town. But don’t get it twisted both my sister and brother were fiercely protective of me.. My brother punched one of his classmates that pushed me down during a soccer game at recess.. The kids mom was on recess duty and saw the whole thing, so luckily my brother just had to go sit by the wall for the rest of recess. Me and my brother, well we were just super adventurous, I was basically his little shadow on the court or in the woods. He was better at everything than me.. I was “Matt Hammon’s little sister”, lol.. but now he’s “Becky Hammon’s brother.” My fans have him to thank for my circus shots, because believe me, I ate alot of those shots in my front yard.. He couldn’t stand it when me and my Dad would beat him and our family friend that was his age, and I couldn’t stand to be blocked!!!! Some things never change.. haha..

Anyways, now I’m just down right rambling.. time to wrap this blog up.. But let me end by saying this, I feel so blessed in this life.. I thank God for them everyday.. everything for me has its foundations in my family.. they’ve loved unconditionally from day one. And every success has their fingerprints all over it, and God’s blessings all around it. It’s humbling to be loved that way. I hope I love the same way. God’s planned purpose for me continues to astonish me, and He’s used everything and everyone in my life to prepare me for it.. I know my name is written on His heart.. He’s fashioned every step, and guarded every journey.. and I’m filled with love and thankfulness for His many blessings.

First, I want to say thank you to everyone who helped make my birthday last week so special. I know some of you made a donation to Respite Care of San Antonio in honor of my birthday, which I hear may be going towards something in the playground for all the kiddos there. Also, some of my fans here made me a really nice photo album. So thank you to everyone — both gifts were very thoughtful and kind.

Don’t worry… I’m going to tell you all about my three-day birthday celebration, but first I have to tell you about mi amiga Amaya and the team’s trip to Orenberg, or at least about the Orenberg airport.

When I got back to Moscow after NBA All-Star Weekend, I went from the airport straight to the Spartak/Valencia game with Ilo and KT to see mi amiga Amaya. She played on my team last year in Moscow and I was sooo excited to see her and catch up with her over dinner. I miss mi amiga!!

The next week, we flew to Orenberg and the Orenberg airport was, um, wow. You can see the picture of Ann, Eddy (with her dang thumbs up sign… ugh) and me standing in front of the Orenberg baggage “shed” (circa 1954?) and another of the entire team freezing in front of the “shed” while we waited for the covered wagon to crawl by with our luggage and put it on the newly remodeled conveyor belt from 1984, probably installed around the same time Rocky IV was filmed (many of my teammates weren’t even born yet then!!). We took lots of pictures while we waited. You can see Shakira, me and JMac rocking the hats and me walking across the “jetway” to the baggage “shed.” Then, we got on the bus that apparently was outfitted with curtains about the same time they built the baggage shed. Aren’t those lovely?

After the trip to Orenberg and three days of the Russian Cup, I flew to Paris where Ann and I got to see Coach Hughes and Olaf. We went on an amazing dinner cruise through Paris. We had a GREAT time!! Then, it was back to Moscow AND… on to the birthday festivities! We went to my favorite Italian restaurant in Moscow – Mario, where I was serenaded by the entertainment for my birthday. They brought a giant piece of tiramisu lit up like the Fourth of July… it was great! And of course, there had to be that one little stubborn candle that took an extra breath of air to go out… and of course when I blew out the mini-bonfire, I also blew the powdery stuff on top of the tiramisu all over the table. Unfortunately I don’t have that picture, but I’m sure somebody there caught all the action. My teammates gave me Rock Band for my birthday so I could practice here (editor’s note: so my band back home can be the most awesomest band ever and beat all challengers and dominate the rock band world). Then, the next night we went out for karaoke! Of course, now that I’m a non-blonde, I paid tribute by kicking off the night with the Four Non-Blondes hit “What’s Up?” Once I kicked the party off brunette-style, we didn’t slow down for a few hours. When we finished blowin’ up the mic, we headed out to the dance floor and that is where the pictures end! But there are a few good shots of us singing karaoke and one of all of us with the owner of the club, who took great care of us.

Hi everybody! Thanks for visiting my site. I hope you like the new look. I’ve also decided to add some new features, including regular blog updates like this one. Things are going well here in Russia. I love my teammates and am having a ton of fun getting to play with Ann and Edwige. Of course the two hottest topics in my life this week are my new “do” (I’m a brunette now!) and my return to the States for NBA All-Star in Phoenix this weekend. First things first, the hair… well, I’ve been thinking about making a change for a while. I’ve been blonde since high school. And finally I just decided to go for it. Of course that was after a few of my friends said I was too chicken to do it, so you know me, don’t tell me that I can’t!! So, I stopped by a little grocery store close to my apartment and bought hair dye, 3 boxes because I have very thick hair! No worries though, we only ended up using 2!… The way I figured it, if I didn’t like it, I’d be making a quick trip to the salon, and it’d be back to blonde for me!! Of course the instructions were all in Russian… So I quickly called up one of teammates to come help me, she came over and I was brunette in a matter of 30 minutes! Everyone of course asks me why I didn’t go to a salon, but if I actually had to plan this, it never would’ve happened. If it wasn’t completely random and on a dare, I’d still be “having more fun.” But to be honest, when my hair came out of that towel– omg!! I was hyperventilating slightly, thinking what did I just do to myself!! It’s normally not a good sign when I look in the mirror and want to laugh and cry at the same time! So I sent a few pictures out to family and friends, and my teammates (Ann was speechless for a few minutes) and the early responses were almost all thumbs up to the brunette, except my Dad and Grandfather who apparently prefer the blonde.. which goes to show, you can’t please everyone.. Sorry, Dad! And I’ll admit, it’s a bit shocking at first, but hopefully it’ll grow on you, like it did me!

The other bit of exciting news is that my club here in Moscow has agreed to let me go and shoot in the All Star game this coming weekend in Phoenix! It should be a lot of fun again! Last year Tim and David were absolute gentlemen and very sweet! They definitely are the nice guys that they’re labeled to be! I’m sure their backs were a little sore trying to bend down in all the photos we had to take together.. Me standing next to them, haha, talk about a picture that makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time-but mostly laugh! What a sight! Hopefully, we’ll be able to shoot the lights out this year again.. Let’s just say no one picked us to win it last year, especially if you saw our practice round! I think we clocked in at just under four minutes!! So we made a few adjustments, switched the shooting order a little, and well-ahhh we were walking away with the hardware! OK, so I threw up a few prayers too, but hey, goes to show you He does hear you!! Almost as much as the All Star game I’m so excited to be back in the States, where there’s a Starbucks on every corner! YESSSS!!!! And what I’m probably most excited about is being able to see some of my family and friends.. it’s a short period, but I’ll take whatever time I can get with them!

That’s it for now. Don’t forget to check out the new pictures I’ve posted for everyone. Hope you enjoyed the update. Tune in to TNT this weekend to catch Tim, David and I defending our title, and check back soon for another update. Until then… Poka, Becky
